As part of presentation, the end of the trailer revealed the Epic Games Store logo, confirming that Shunmue 3 is going to be an exclusive on that controversial PC marketplace. Naturally, this information seems to have only recently come about, which angered many of the PC Kickstarter backers who originally put in for a Steam code. The Kickstarter page was hit with complaints and many have since requested refunds on the basis that they’re not receiving the product they pre-purchased.
Unfortunately, those refund requests have been denied from the Shenmue 3 team. The response apologizes for the sudden change in platform, but reaffirms the switch to Epic Games Store and that requests for refunds will not be granted due to this change. It was also revealed that the platform switch was also prompted in some fashion by the games publisher Deep Silver who felt that moving to Epic Games Store would be the the best distribution platform option.
This latest gaf comes on the heels of another supposed leak last week which led many fans to believe that Shenmue 3 would be coming to Xbox One. The rumor eventually got the attention of Deep Silver, who squashed the reported news by confirming that the game is on track to release only on the PC and PlayStation 4 platforms.
Shenmue 3 is launching November 19, 2019 for PC and PS4.
