In the DCU lineup, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the next big film expected to release next year. However, a few months before the film’s premiere, the hierarchy of power changed at DC, and Henry Cavill’s Superman and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam had to bid farewell to the DCU. Amid these changes, Shazam! fans were worried that Levi would also be replaced, but the actor has clarified that the rumors aren’t true.

After Johnson’s big reveal that Black Adam will not be a part of the DCU, disgruntled fans shared their thoughts on social media regarding the state of their favorite DC characters. At some point, a rumor started swirling online that Levi was also losing his role, and one Twitter user’s reaction to the rumor caught the actor’s attention. The user, who goes by @bellatrixkale23, tagged Levi in her post and wrote, “I want this not to be true because Shazam is the ONE thing in the DCEU I would absolutely… protect.”
In response to the user’s tweet, Levi commented, “Oooh, I really wouldn’t go believing everything you see on the internet. I’m Gucci, Ash. We all Gucci.” It seems like Levi’s position in the DCU is secure for now. Shazam 2 is scheduled to release in three months, but no one knows what Shazam’s fate is going to be beyond that. Since Levi’s confirmation that he’s good for now, fans are wondering whether Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the last time they’ll see the actor play the character in the DCU.
In DC Comics, Shazam’s path does cross with Superman and Black Adam at some point. Under Gunn and Safran’s rule, both characters seem to have lost their place in the DCU. There have been talks about rebooting the Superman franchise, but fans are disappointed that Cavill’s journey as the Man of Steel is over. With the future of both those characters currently uncertain, fans are convinced that Levi’s Shazam is next on the chopping block. Whether Levi’s titular character will return for another fight remains to be seen, but for now, Shazam fans have nothing to worry about.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled to premiere on March 17, 2023.
